1846, during the heyday of mining in Frantschach-St. Gertraud, the Silesian entrepreneur Hugo Henckel von Donnersmarck invested in the construction of a modern blast furnace. Just 20 years later, the mining industry in Carinthia proved to be uneconomical and the iron processing plant was converted into a cellulose factory. The large blast furnace made of brick remained. Today the impressive building with its Gothic decorative elements is a listed building.
