The fountain (also called Juffernspring) is located at the Rupenteich in the Iserlohn city forest. It was named in 1760 after its then owner and owner of the local water rights, the Iserlohn councilor and from 1718 also the second mayor Heinrich Gisbert Ballot, a Westphalian merchant who received the civil rights of the city of Iserlohn in 1679. Every year, the so-called fountain drinking traditionally takes place here early in the morning on Whit Monday. The pure and cool spring water is served to everyone by the incumbent royal couple and the court of the Iserlohner Schützenverein (IBSV). According to tradition, it should develop a health-promoting and thus life-prolonging effect for the coming year. A healing power of the elixir from the Juffernspring was already suspected in pre-Christian times, at that time it was assumed that it was a blessing from the Germanic goddess Freya.
