There is reference to the existence of this church as early as 1019. It has a basilica plan, an elongated main nave and two lower lateral ones with rows of columns between them, and it is mostly known for the paintings found in the apse, a Pantocrator inside of the mystical almond, surrounded by the Tetramorphs and two seraphim angels. The paintings were restored in the mid-20th century and again in the early 21st century.

The sacristy was modified between the 16th and 17th centuries, and experts affirm that the church itself was built in different stages. In the 11th century, the side naves were added, while the central nave was restored, probably due to a collapse. straddling the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. It is at this time that the painting of the Pantocrator in the apse was probably added.
