The reserve consists of a south-west slope with elements of steep and flat surfaces. In the lower parts there is a nutrient-rich spruce forest of the ragweed type with a long forest continuity, and further up the slope the forest merges into a pine forest with old pine crowns. There are many endangered and unusual soil fungi in the spruce forest, probably a result of the influence of greenstone.

The nature reserve surrounds the property of an orienteering club. The area is a well-visited destination for everyday sports enthusiasts and there are hiking trails through the forest that are part of a larger network of trails Racken and the villages. The area around Racken is of great cultural and historical importance, partly due to the group of artists who settled here around the turn of the century.
