For the people of Tyrol, Andreas Hofer is still a national hero today, who is commemorated annually on his day of death, February 20th. Because in 1809 he successfully led the Tyrolean troops against the Bavarians and the French. Today, monuments in many places in Tyrol commemorate the freedom fighter.
