The Angostura Bridge is one of the oldest and most charming bridges in the Sierra de Madrid. It is located right on a high and narrow area of the Lozoya River, where the current is quite strong. This hiking route is perfect for families and is suitable for all ages. You can travel it in a circular way, going along one side of the Angostura and returning on the other, or do it as a round trip along the forest track. In total, it is approximately 7 km round trip. During the route, you will be able to see the Pradillo Waterfall, which is the most spectacular waterfall in the area and the most important in the course of the Lozoya. The best times to do this walk are spring (time of thaw) or after autumn rains, when there is more water in the riverbed. It is also beautiful in winter, with the snow, although you should come prepared for the intense cold. Much of the route will be accompanied by the Lozoya or Angostura river. I hope you enjoy this route! 😊

In some chronicles it appears named as a Roman bridge, it is of one eye and masonry construction, the old stones are covered with moss and the vibrant magic that usually surrounds some places in the mountain forests. The current bridge was built by order of Philip II to move with his entourage between the Paular Monastery and the Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso. In the channel there are pools and on the banks birches, willows and oaks.

The bridge has the name "Roman" in some texts but it is actually a work from the 18th century, built by order of Felipe V to facilitate the passage of carriages on their journeys between the Royal Site of La Granja and El Paular. The bridge has a large arch of rough, rough masonry, wedged between two granite ledges in a narrowing of the valley.

The environmental conditions of the high mountains condition the diversity of plants and animals that inhabit the natural environment of the Angostura Valley. The confluence of the streams and the banks of the water currents are interesting places to observe the environment with curiosity and discover the details that give value and quality to the natural kingdom of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The murmur of fresh and crystalline water running through the torrent, skipping rocks and pine roots, is an invitation from the river ecosystem to get closer to the botanical nature of the pine forests of the Angostura Valley. The Scots pine dominates the forest landscape but on the banks of the streams, changing color with each season, filling the pools of water with leaves, willows, hawthorns, rowans, ivy, mosses, ferns, vines, wild roses and various species appear. of aquatic plants. The birds of the forest also tend to frequent the course of the rivers and ravines looking for water and food.
