The church of the Immaculate Conception is the ancient parish church of Avio, in Trentino.
The first mention of the existence of the parish dates back to a papal bull of 1145 by Pope Eugene III but it is believed that its foundation can be placed between the 8th and 10th centuries. In the Middle Ages it was subjected to the power of the Castelbarco, local lords, but from 1411 the vicariate of Avio passed into the hands of the Republic of Venice which gave it privileges and autonomy so much that the parish experienced its "golden age". Starting from the sixteenth century a period of slow decline begins which will lead it to no longer be sufficient to contain the faithful, who have grown as a result of the demographic increase, so much so that in 1695 it will be replaced in the role of parish church by a new building begun in the center in Avio as early as 1651.
In the 2000s, the parish church of Avio served as a cemetery church for the adjoining campo santo.
