Evangelical Church Weiterode and Court Linden Tree

Of the remarkable Protestant church, which was built in the 13th century, only the tower remains. In the following centuries, some fundamental changes were made to the church.The stone “court table” is still located on the “court linden tree” in front of the church, very impressive.

The choir tower, the oldest part of the church in Weiterode, dates from the 13th century. In the following centuries there were many structural changes. A major expansion took place in 1619 with the lengthening of the nave and the relocation of the altar and portal. Exactly one hundred years later, the nave was enlarged again. With the new mansard roof, the ceiling painting in the style of rural baroque also found its way. The tower got its hood in 1829. At the foot of the church was the former village court. Court linden tree, table and ring of sandstone walls still bear witness to times long past.

The church in Weiterode, built in the 13th century, of which the choir tower is the oldest part, has undergone several renovations over the years. Along with the roof reconstruction, the ceiling was decorated with paintings in the Peasant Baroque style. The church is one of the Peasant Baroque churches found in the region and is therefore well worth a visit.
