If you drive south on the A71, you will reach the Werratal viaduct, which spans the wide Werra valley, directly in front of the Eichelberg tunnel. This modern concrete bridge is over a kilometer long but not very high. In an elegant arc, you approach the tunnel tube on the bridge. While the traffic is raging above and the rustling of car tires in the air, the landscape of the Werra valley radiates calm and serenity despite the massive concrete supports of the bridge. Directly before the tunnel, at the end of the bridge, is the Meiningen Süd motorway exit.
