The funicular operated from 1906 to the 1980s. It allowed the Differdange blast furnaces to be supplied with iron with ore extracted in Ottange, in France; Europe before its time. It ran for 13 km, crossing the communes of Rumelange, Russange, Audun-le-Tiche, Esch-sur-Alzette, Redange and Belvaux. The “gling-gling” of the passages at the posts remains in the minds of all the inhabitants who have experienced this unique work. A bit like the noise of a chairlift in a ski resort...
