The Afsluitdijk is a 32-kilometer-long dam in the Netherlands, located between the provinces of Noord-Holland and Friesland. It is considered the most important single structure of the Zuiderzee Works for land reclamation and coastal protection in the Netherlands, sealing off the former Zuiderzee from the North Sea. Its construction was completed in 1932 and also included the construction of two large tidal barriers to drain the incoming freshwater. A highway and a cycle and pedestrian path run along the dam. The barrier created the IJsselmeer, a tidal estuary, from the tidal Zuiderzee.

Breezanddijk is a Dutch hamlet on Rijksweg 7 (European route 22) approximately
in the middle of the Afsluitdijk between the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea.
The hamlet is located on the former artificial island of Breezand, which was created for the construction of the Afsluitdijk, and is located approximately 12 kilometers from the Frisian coast.
In 2009, four people were registered as residents here.
The hamlet consists of a single building with the address Afsluitdijk 1.
