This is a memorial to Graham Vinicombe Winchester Clowes, of the Gordon Highlanders who was killed in an ambush durrng the Boer war in 1901. His mother travelled to South Africa and had the present grave constructed over his simple burial site. For many years she returnrd laying a wreath on her sons grave on the anniversary of her son's death. This was no mean feat travelling by ship to Cape Town and by road in the heat of summer
