The railway line from Kappel-Gutachbrücke to Bonndorf was inaugurated in 1907 with a special train. The then
Railway operated by steam locomotives, popularly known as "Bonndorferli"
called, drove six times a day from Neustadt to Bonndorf and back.In addition to passenger transport, the main task was freight transport, especially the removal of wood and the transport of animal feed, seeds, grain and coal.In the war year 1944 the train in the Heftewald at the Gutachhalde was destroyed
fired upon by American fighter planes. Two women and the stoker of the locomotive lost their lives.In 1966, passenger traffic was discontinued and freight traffic continued with diesel locomotives.
On May 1, 1977 drove in for the last time
train on the route.
Soon after, the tracks were removed.Today, the "Bähnleradweg" on the former railway line is very popular with cyclists because of its flat course.
