The Hillers family commissioned the erection and reconstruction of the memorial with parts of the "Peters monument", which stood on the Tossen dike from 1901 to 1940. The inauguration took place on September 30, 2022 in Tossens. Hobby historian Meinhard Wefer from Bockhorn has compiled the life's work of Hans Christoph Peters. The starting point was the centuries-long removal of the jade stream that flowed in and out daily on the western dykes of Butjadingen. The storm surges regularly destroyed the newly built jade dikes. In 1836 this should be put back again. But then Peters had the idea of how to put an end to this. In addition to the usual protection of the lower foot of the dyke with stone packing, his method envisaged raising the outer berms of the dyke and also their gully edges by 1 m, but at least up to spring tide height. In this respect, normal floods could not reach the turf at the foot of the dike and increased protection. Furthermore, the embankments from the now raised outer berm of the dyke to the surface of the tideland were provided with a stone bank approx. 9 m wide. Ultimately, this dyke construction method was cheaper than permanently moving the dyke back.
This method caught on and ensured his career. In 1847 he was transferred to the residential city of Oldenburg (OL), became a dike chief, senior dike chief and chief state councillor. In 1855 he played a key role in the new dyke regulations before dying in OL in 1868.

However, this monument is not the first Peters monument, but already the fourth. From 1870 - 1900 the first was already in the form of a Gothic pyramid on the dike in Tossens. After the destruction, a replica was erected in 1901 and removed in 1940 because it was in the line of fire of anti-aircraft guns. Parts of this were installed in the reconstruction of the top of the monument that has now been erected. In 1957 the third Peters monument was erected next to the old beach hall in Tossens, but had to make way for the new one because the old one had fallen victim to the storm surge of 1962. In 1970/1977, after the dike construction work had been completed, the monument that had been stored at the time was re-erected on the spot where the "Schloss am Meer" used to be. Here again it had to give way again; namely the beach entrance over the dike in 2007. The client was the II. Oldbg. Deichband, which once again contributed financially to the fourth monument.

The Peters monument stands in front of the concert shell in Tossens. Concerts are held here regularly. Like the Petersdenkmal, it was built and inaugurated in 2022. A visual regional highlight.
