The Steyrling rises in the Sandgraben in the Dead Mountains at around 920 m above sea level. A. It initially flows north through a sparsely populated valley. At the confluence of the Höbach, it turns east and then flows through the village of Steyrling. Below the village, it runs in a deep gorge and flows into the Steyr, which has been dammed up to form Klauser See, near Prizegg.
