The "Panzerstraße" was created to connect the 7th Panzer Regiment from the barracks in Vaihingen with the 8th Panzer Regiment in Böblingen, only 15km away. The road consists of two lanes separated by a median strip of darker paving stones. Cobblestone was preferred because it was not damaged by the tank tracks. The American soldiers used the road for a long time for an annual marathon over 10 miles from Vaihingen to Böblingen.
