Over the past 500 years, the Martini tower burned down, struck lightning and nearly collapsed. Wars were won and lost on the doorstep. The tower survived and is still the tallest building in the city at 97 meters. Climb up for a piece of tangible history and fantastic views.

    Hiking

The Martini tower is the church tower of the Martinikerk in Groningen. It is 97 meters high and has several viewing platforms, from which you can see over the city. The ascent is via a steep spiral staircase that leads to the very top. Up to there are several hundred steps. In addition to a carillon, the tower has twelve ringed bells from the years 1577/78, 1962 and 1996 in the key notes fis0 (≈7,850 kg), gis0, ais0, h0, cis1, dis1, eis1, fis1, gis1, ais1, h1 and cis2. The bells are rung by hand until today.

The church stands at the Great Market.
The sandstone tower is almost 100 meters high and dates from the 15th century. It can be climbed for one euro.
