This is the former workshop building erected in 1915 for the "Distillery & Presshefefabrik Tornesch" founded in 1881 on this site. The company, expanded around 1911 into a chemical factory, was of international importance and a leader in the field of wood saccharification.
Most of the plant was demolished after the plant was shut down in 1999. This and the former laboratory building next to it have been renovated from private funds in the course of the local redevelopment and put to a new use.
