The hydroelectric power station at Gießenbach near Kiefersfelden went into operation in 1910, making it one of the oldest in Bavaria. For comparison, the Walchensee power plant was not completed until 14 years later. The path through the Gießenbachklamm was originally used to transport material for the construction of the dam. The water flows from the reservoir to the two turbines at the lower end of the gorge via pressure pipes.

A nice short walk to the power plant, which is also doable with a stroller or wheelchair. There are several steps into the gorge.
