The market fountain was erected in 1574. It used to supply drinking water to the population in the central part of the market town and was fed by a water pipe from the mountain. The knight should symbolically embody the market right given to the community. In 1736 it was thrown down by Dutch recruits, so it was renovated again and a lion was added at the knight's feet. The last renovation took place in 1953.
