The Romanesque church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Nicholas in Giecz is one of the most valuable monuments of Romanesque architecture in Poland, it is a historical testimony to the beginnings of Christianity in Greater Poland and the construction of the foundations of Polish statehood.

Stanisław Hebanowski (1820-98), the owner of Giecz, the author of the design of the Polish Theater in Poznań and many landowners' residences in Wielkopolska, is buried next to the church. His grandson, also Stanisław (theatre director, prose writer and translator, 1912-1983), rests next to him.
