      trollinger

The Trollinger, a red grape variety, is a typical wine from Württemberg and something like the Swabian national drink. The grape probably got its name from the word "Tirolinger", since the underlying grape variety is Vernatsch from South Tyrol. The red grape variety is cultivated in the Württemberg growing area on 2964 hectares of vineyards and is therefore the main grape variety in this region. Outside of Swabia, however, the Trollinger is not very popular because the vine is susceptible to disease - especially to downy and powdery mildew - requires a long maturing period and warm soil and usually produces very high yields. In Germany, for example, this grape variety is otherwise only cultivated in small quantities in Baden, in the Palatinate and in Rheinhessen.
