Filsø used to be Jutland's largest lake. In the middle of the last century, the lake was drained and used for agriculture. Water was only added to the lake in 2012. This enabled the creation of a large nature area with a visitor center and bird watching towers.

At the visitor center (accessible via an access road) there is an information building, a landscape bridge and a visitor car park. The great ellipse was erected in 2016 - 2018. It forms a beautiful interaction with the water level. It offers plenty of seating to enjoy nature or to take a break "just because".

In the educational building there are toilets, a technical room, a kitchen and the actual school room, which is equipped with large windows, a fireplace and niches for storage and seating. From the classroom there is direct access to the schoolyard, which forms the "outdoor classroom" of the building.
