The 617.6 m high Bartenstein, also popularly known as Barstein, is a mountain in the high Westerwald.
It is located northwest of the village of Gusternhain in the area of the municipality of Breitscheid. The name Barstein comes from a legend in which it is said that a long time ago a bard was chained to a rock on the Barstein and fed by the animals of the forest.
Not to be confused with the Baarstein mountain between Heisterberg and Waldaubach.
