At the waterfall it is always quite shady and humid, so a lot of moss can grow here. It's impressive to see entire rock formations overgrown with moss.

Purpose of protection is the preservation of an excellently trained canyon forest society on the north exposed valley slopes of the Autal. To the Alb plateau, the area is bordered by a rocky ridge with up to 25 m high, which has species-rich moss deposits. There are numerous karst springs in the area of the White Jurassic Beta, which plunge as tuff formation as white water runs in several channels through the mentioned, over long stretches open formation as waterfalls. They form a stream landscape that resembles the natural state. The main source also has cultural-historical significance, as they supplied the drinking water for the community Aufhausen before installing the Albwasserversorgung. The spring water flows from a partially accessible karst cave. A somewhat decayed pathway with slope and downhill retaining walls leads to the cave.Particularly noteworthy and extremely worthy of protection is a mass occurrence (close to 100,000) of the morning mug (Leucojum vernum).
