Gänserndorf - city of columns:
Columns occupy a special place in the municipality of Gänserndorf. The element can be found in many places in different designs, shapes and colors - sometimes quite unconsciously.

Schönkirchner Gate:
Like a reincarnation, the two columns are reminiscent of the chimney of the nearby former brick factory, which was blown up in 1980. The material from which was salvaged, cleaned and reused here with the help of many volunteers. The columns were built in 1999 from old walls and chimney bricks.
The name "City of Columns" was mentioned for the first time in 2000 in the exhibition of the artist Manfred Hermann Bauch. The idea of the art project was to emphasize entering and leaving the city area with columns.
Gradually, other objects in the public space were integrated in the form of columns.
