The plaque is dedicated to the Polish diaspora operating in the Free City of Gdańsk in the years 1918-1939. It commemorates the Polish House, which stood at Chopina Street (Einserhardtstrasse), in the place where the memorial plaque is currently located. The Polish House was liquidated and partially demolished shortly after the incorporation of the Free City of Gdańsk, of which Sopot was also a part, within the borders of Nazi Germany on September 1, 1939.
