A very worth seeing church in the Weltenburg monastery. If you visit the monastery once, you should take the time to visit the church as well.

When you are in the monastery, you should look at the imposing interior of the churches. The ceiling and altar are very impressive works of art.

Weltenburg Abbey is a Benedictine abbey (Abbey of Saint George) in Weltenburg, a district of Kelheim an der Donau in Lower Bavaria. It lies above the Danube Gorge in a loop of the Danube. The monastery belongs to the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation. The main tasks of today's Weltenburg Abbey are pastoral care (supervision of two parishes) and the reception of guests in the "St. George's Meeting Place".

The fact that monks brewed beer in Weltenburg was first documented in the year 1050, which is why Weltenburg advertises as the "oldest monastery brewery in the world".[8] The annual output of the Weltenburg GmbH monastery brewery is almost 30,000 hectoliters. A beer garden was set up in the monastery courtyard, where products from the brewery are served. Since April 2007, guided tours of the brewery have been offered on weekends. The "Weltenburger Kloster Barock Dunkel" was awarded the "World Beer Cup" in 2004, 2008 and 2012 as the best dark beer in the world

The world-famous monastery is definitely worth a trip. The church is quite small but very beautiful. Taking photos in the church is prohibited. From Kehlheim you can easily walk along the Danube to the viewing point opposite with a view of the monastery.

The monastery church of the Benedictine Abbey of Weltenburg, which appears to be plain from the outside, was built by the brothers Cosmas Damian and Egid Quirin Asam.
The small abbey church is one of the most important baroque church buildings in Europe today. Impressive architecture is revealed to visitors, paired with fantastic frescoes, stucco work and paintings.
A special experience is a visit to the monastery church in the early morning hours, when the sun breaks through the three rear windows and bathes the room in warm, radiant light.

Weltenburg Monastery, wonderful Passau and Schlögener Schlinge

We are in Austria, spent the night in Schlögen and admired the Schlögen loop. Here the Danube winds through the mountains. It's wonderful to see from above.
The sports boat harbor is located exactly in this loop. There's no better place to be on a boat.

In Germany it went from Bamberg via Nuremberg, Beilngries, Kelheim, Deggendorf to Passau. The Danube, Inn and Ilz flow together in Passau. This looks great from above. The cathedral with its towers towers over the city, and you have a good view of the city from the Veste Oberhaus, a fortress on the mountain. This invites you to take a walk with its small alleys. Bernd and Elisabeth picked us up by car in Passau. They showed us Passau and the surrounding area and drove to their home in a small town that is already in Austria. We had a nice evening together and had a lot to talk about.
