Beautiful little chapel right on the trail

The first chapel on the Frauenberg was built around 700, shortly after the foundation of the Weltenburg monastery, on the foundations of a Roman temple. The current baroque building was built in 1713 and 1714 by the Kelheim architect Caspar Öttl on a medieval substructure. The Rococo style was created by the sculptor Franz Anton Neu from Checking around 1755.

The chapel comprises a two-nave nave and a single-bay, choir arch closed, which is slightly drawn in and oriented to the east. On the north side there is a flank tower with a hood attachment and a lantern, which is hardly any higher than the saddle-covered nave. The latter was placed on a medieval substructure, so that the actual church room is one floor above ground.
