In 1150, Bishop Vicelin inaugurated Oldesloe's first known church, the Petruskirche, which was the predecessor of today's Peter-Paul-Kirche.
It is believed that the Petruskirche went up in flames in 1415 when Duke Erich V of Saxony-Lauenburg cremated Oldesloe. A new church was then built on its foundations, which was called "Kerke sante Peters unde sante Pawels".
The Old Lutheran Reformation has been in effect in Oldesloe since 1525. According to an old tradition, the reformer Johannes Bugenhagen was said to have preached in the Peter Paul Church at that time. In the years before 1537, the Peter-Paul-Church burned out due to a lightning strike.
In order to be able to celebrate services again, in 1542 the roof of the church, which had been destroyed down to the outer walls, was covered. In two centuries, attempts were made to repair the church until it was decided, for security reasons, to demolish the Peter and Paul Church. A little later on July 19, 1757, the foundation stone was laid for a new church, which was finally completed in 1763.
A roof rider was on the roof of the church until about 1844. The church got its present appearance from the neo-Gothic style 60 meter high tower built in 1886.

The Peter Paul Church is the outstanding landmark of Bad Oldesloe. In 1150 the first church was consecrated by Bishop Vicelin to the Apostle Peter. So Peter came as the patron saint of the city in the coat of arms of Bad Oldesloe. Today's late baroque brick building dates from 1757 - 1764. The architect was the Lübeck council architect Adam Soher. The tower was added in 1886.
The atmosphere of the church is particularly characterized by the stained glass windows in the choir room. They were designed by Siegfried Assmann in 1960.
