The Glass Barn
With the "Glass Barn" the glass painter and artist Rudolf Schmid realized a big dream with his family. He acquired a farmhouse between Plöß and Rattersberg near Viechtach and transformed the old barn into decades of work in an impressive Gesamtkunstwerk. Outside greets the "Raubühler giant" who looks from the tower. Inside are large painted glass walls. Then the artist tells stories of famous Bayerwald legends. For example, Mühlhiarsl's predictions and the fate of the legendary robber Heigl. In addition to the glass art works you can also admire the richly carved barn door to the Bavarian custom of "Rauhnacht". Artist Rudolf Schmid was rightly honored in 2006 with the Glass Road Prize for his life's work. A visit to the "Glass Barn" will be a unique experience. However, one should also take time for a guided tour by a family member to get also backgrounds and stories about the motives. The small entrance fee for visiting the barn is well laid out.
