Tips
As with the not far away summit castle on the Stolzenberg, the history of the castle Freienstein does not contain any certain written information. An uncertain message says that in 1382 a Bernhardt Wulff lived there. The property rights in the room Hallenberg give the presumption that it could have acted at the castle on the Free Stone to a Landesburg the Cologne archbishops. The exact date of foundation and the task of the castle Freienstein are unknown. The small castle was built near the important long-distance route from Hallenberg to Winterberg. (J.F.)
