In 1863 the mill was moved from its original location outside the village to its present location in the center of the village, where the mill, originally a Grondzeiler, was placed on a brick scaffold. The mill was in operation until around 1930, after which it fell into disrepair. After an unfinished renovation during World War II, the mill was restored around 1959. After 1970 the mill fell into disrepair again and became so dilapidated that not much remained of De Leeuw except a plastic-covered skeleton. The municipality bought the mill in 1994 and thoroughly restored it. In 1996 the mill was ready to grind again. Since this restoration, the mill has been in regular operation. The two Milling Chairs are used to grind wheat that is sold at the Mill.

"De Leeuw" is open on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons for tours and the sale of flour products. A small fee is charged for the visit.
