Arrival site of the nineteenth stage of the Giro d'Italia 2022, won by Koen Bouwman, the sanctuary of Castelmonte (Stara Gora in Slovenian, meaning "ancient mountain") is located in the village of the same name in the municipality of Prepotto. Named after the Blessed Virgin, the sanctuary was consecrated in 1744 and is very important for Slovenian literature: in the 1490s, in fact, the so-called Castelmonte manuscript (Starogorski rokopis in Slovenian) was written here, one of the oldest documents, until received by us, written in Slovenian.
