The Bäumerhof is closely related to the Herford women's monastery, which has been in use since 789. The respective abbess of the monastery had a large area of forest and land for her own maintenance and as a summer residence. The area was called “Sundern”, which is where today’s place name comes from.
The Bäumerhof was one of the farms in this area that worked for the abbess. The farm remained in its possession until the monastery was dissolved in 1803.
