Erfurt ski jump:
In the Steigerwald, in the Rhodaer Grund, the first Erfurt ski jump was opened in 1938 to establish Erfurt as a winter sports center. The inauguration took place in January 1940.The reigning German champion at the time, Hans Marr from Oberhof, flew 29 meters in the opening jump, almost to the limit of the 30-meter hill and thus achieved a hill record. The last jumping runs are said to have taken place by 1942. After the war - as residents remember - the ski jump fell victim to a lack of construction and fuel. This sealed the fate of the hill and it fell into disrepair.Today, at a small rest area, an information board from the New Erfurt-Möbisburg/Rhoda e.V. citizens' initiative commemorates the Thuringian athlete and the history of this monument of Erfurt's sports history.Further information: erfurt-web.de/Sprungschanze_Rhoda
