Here the workers could protect themselves in the event of an explosion.
The Malapertus pit mined manganese ore from 1860 to 1913 in the manganese ore pit and limestone from 1912 to 2011 in the adjacent limestone quarry. In 1912, Buderus Eisenwerke, as the operator of the limestone quarry, supplied Sophienhütte and its cement works. The company Heidelberg Cement Ag operated the quarry from 2003 to 2011.
The Malapertus development association takes care of the manganese ore mine. The quarry is used to backfill excavated earth.
