The Erlengrund is located directly on the Havel local situation of the Berlin district Hakenfelde in the district of Spandau. It is still north of the Bürgerablage and there are two weekend settlements on the area. The arboreal colony 'Erlengrund' was, like the neighboring 'Fichtewiese', until 1988 a Berlin exclave on Brandenburg (formerly Prussian) territory. Through the wall, these weekend colonies from 1961 to 1988 separated from the then West Berlin and "walled", thus only limited access for the settlers to their property.
