Together with the Bottalino fountain, the Porta della Torrazza marks the entrance to the city of Biella, straight into the heart of its medieval city. The portal, which had no defensive purpose but a celebratory one, was built on the occasion of the visit to the city of Biella and the Sanctuary of Oropa by King Vittorio Amedeo III and Queen Maria Antonia Ferdinanda of Spain.

Also called Porta d'Oropa, it was built in 1780, in place of an ancient medieval gate, no longer with a defensive function, but a celebratory one: in fact, it recalled the visit of King Vittorio Amedeo II and Queen Maria Antonia Ferdinanda of Spain to the city of Biella and the Sanctuary of Oropa which took place in the same year.
The door has an arched structure and is made with exposed bricks.
At the center of the arch there was originally the Savoy coat of arms which was chiseled in 1798, during the period of the French revolution.
