Really cool to cross the tunnel of the old railway line between Rimini and San Marino by MTB. Easy to reach even if not very marked.

      Borgo Gallery - cycle-pedestrian path.
A place full of charm and history, very useful for quickly and safely passing from the climb of "Strada Prima Gualdaria" to Borgo Maggiore near the cable car (or vice versa obviously).

      1928 - 1932

"The San Marino-Rimini international railway, built entirely at the expense of the Italian fascist administration between 1928 and 1932 following agreements regarding radio broadcasts and transport, saw the use of over 1000 workers for its construction.
The 32 kilometers of the route were soon completed with an average progress of 25 meters per day. The 17 tunnels are all located in San Marino territory.
The narrow gauge electric railway, to adapt to the steep terrain, was inaugurated on 12 June 1932. It ran on a single uphill and downhill line so it was necessary to build interchange stations.
In addition to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd class cars, there was a saloon car for heads of state and illustrious guests.
Despite its neutrality, San Marino was bombed and invaded. The railway, seriously damaged by the English bombing of 26 June 1944, made its final run the following month to transport evacuees from Rimini.
During the years of conflict, the galleries were also equipped to provide hospitality to the over 100,000 Italians who asked for refuge. In recent years the administration has been committed to the recovery of the tunnels and the route as a cycle-pedestrian path.
