Sauveterre-la-Lémance is an interesting village in more ways than one.
The prehistoric deposit of the Martinet located in the town gave its name to a prehistoric period called the Sauveterrien. This is called an eponymous site. The term Sauveterrien refers to flint knapping industries dating from the Mesolithic period, that is to say around -9,000 BC. This is a very interesting period for those who study prehistory, because it is a transitional period between the Paleolithic and the Neolithic, often little studied. At the time, very small arrowheads (microlith) were made. What is tiny is often unimpressive, and does not attract crowds. The fact remains that a nice museum will teach you more about this period, and about the village.
Sauveterre also has, in addition to its museum and its site, a very beautiful fortified castle, beautiful squares and streets, as well as a few shops.
