On May 7th Joan of Arc rode forward. Struck by an arrow and thrown from her horse, she remained on the field. This impressed her comrades-in-arms and increased the army's combat readiness. A day later, the English withdrew from the position that had become hopeless. May 8th is celebrated in Orléans as Liberation Day.
