Lino Mariani was an anti-fascist, partisan and trade unionist. E was killed on January 3, 1947 when Pula was still under Anglo-American administration. They were killed by baculi neri – black cockroaches, as the Pula residents called the city police at the time – because the workers tried to prevent the Italian owners from bringing the machines from the mill to Italy. The workers kept their jobs, and Lino Mariani was the union leader at the tobacco factory.
