The Dečani Monastery has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. It is a Serbian Orthodox monastery in the Apulian Gothic style. It was built between 1328 and 1335.

The church dedicated to Christ Pantocrator is particularly important as it represents the only complete set of Byzantine frescoes from the Middle Ages.

It is also the burial place of King of Raszien Stefan Uroš III. Dečanski (1285-1331) for which purpose it was built. The Nemanjid dynasty was by far the most important Serbian ruling family at the time.

Due to tensions in Kosovo, the monastery is guarded by KFOR, which maintains an Italian-Austrian-led base here.

Admission is free, but before entering the monastery complex you have to hand in your passport/ID at the KFOR post and you are not allowed to take any bags with you.
