Ernst Johannes Fritz Thälmann was a German politician in the Weimar Republic. From 1925 until his arrest in 1933 he was chairman of the German Communist Party, which he represented in the Reichstag from 1924 to 1933 and for which he stood as a candidate in the Reich Presidential elections of 1925 and 1932.
