The Rooienkapel is located on the corner of the Rooienkapel and the Schoorstraat in Gierle. The chapel is dedicated to Our Lady's Visitation and is located on a square with oak and beech trees. Originally, the chapel was completely surrounded by a moat. The rectangular brick chapel dates back to the end of the 16th century. In the 19th century it was enlarged towards the west. Above the entrance in the west facade is a niche with a statue of Our Lady and Child. The sober plastered and painted interior has a barrel vault. The chapel was renovated in 1986. In 2005 the chapel was protected as a monument.Source: lille.be/rooienkapel-gierle
