The Plaza de Federico Moyúa or Elliptical Square, as it is known to the people of Bilbao, was built in the early 1940s by the architect Jose Luis Salinas. Sixty years later, his son Manuel Salinas was commissioned to renovate this part of the city centre. The square was reopened in 1997 and still has its original elliptical shape and its English and French-style flower beds, with modern steel lampposts and functional street furniture as new features. It also regained its iconic original fountain. The people of Bilbao still consider it one of their favourite meeting places.

Beautiful square with plenty of seating and a sea of flowers in spring and summer. Around the square there is quite a lot of traffic but in the square it is like an oasis. You can also admire the Iberdrola building from a distance from the square
