Text extract from the information board: “For a long time, before the current water treading point, there was only a water measuring point here on the Steinbach.
On the initiative of the Klein Süntel / Flegessen e. V. (VVV), a local heritage, traffic and beautification association that has existed since the early 1960s, the water measuring point was converted into a water treading point in 1989. …
The water treading point on the Steinbachtal is a gem in the Süntel and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful water treading points in northern Germany.
The water treading point is fed by the cold water of the Steinbach (at any time, approx. 6-8° Celsius). The ochre color of the Steinbach water is related to the former coal mining in the Süntel: Pyrite decaying into rust, which the Süntel coal contains in abundance, is the cause of the discoloration. This has no effect on the quality of the Steinbach water in the area of the water treading point.”
