Hiking Highlight (Segment)
The Ahornsee is considered an insider tip among hikers. The quiet lake is romantically situated in a narrow valley surrounded by high cliffs. Although no summit is reached on this tour, the hike attracts with its scenic charms. The approach from the Kneipp facility in Weißenbach is relatively long. This deters many, wrongly, from. The tour is pleasantly quiet and definitely rewarding.
From the parking lot at the barrier behind the Kneipp facility we start. First it goes flat, following the small Gradenbach, to the hunting lodge (899 m) to the somewhat hidden Gradenbach waterfall. Behind the hut, take path no. 668 up a wooded steep step. Partly the downhill path is secured with wire ropes. After the steep section, the path leads to a romantic high valley. A small stream has to be crossed several times. After about 2.5 hours the Ahornsee is reached. On the shore is a small hut, in front of it you can settle down wonderfully and relax. If you still have energy, you can continue to the Grafenbergsee (about 30 minutes). The Grafenbergalm (1,783 m) can also be reached in one hour from the Ahornsee. The descent is again through the romantic high valley to the starting point at the Kneippanlage in Weißenbach.

For the landscape: 5 stars! The varied trail runs under a rock face, through a steep and gently rising mountain forest, crosses streams that are sometimes heard only under boulders, offers views of the Gradenbach gorge and the Ennstal, leads just before the lake through a moorland. In some places he is secured with ropes.
