For the landscape: 5 stars! The varied trail runs under a rock face, through a steep mountain forest that rises gently further up, crosses streams that can sometimes only be heard under rubble, offers views of the Gradenbach Gorge and the Enns Valley, and leads through a moorland landscape just before the lake. In some places it is secured with ropes.

The Ahornsee is an insider tip among hiking enthusiasts. The quiet lake is romantically situated in a narrow valley surrounded by high rock walls. Although no summit is reached on this tour, the hike is still attractive with its scenic charm. The approach from the Kneipp facility in Weißenbach is relatively long. This puts many people off, wrongly. The tour is pleasantly quiet and definitely worthwhile.
We start from the car park at the barrier behind the Kneipp facility. At first it is flat, following the small Gradenbach stream, to the hunting lodge (899 m) to the somewhat hidden Gradenbach waterfall. Behind the hut, path no. 668 leads up a wooded steep slope. The sloping path is partially secured with wire ropes. After the steep section, the path leads into a romantic high valley. A small stream has to be crossed several times. After about 2.5 hours, you reach the Ahornsee. There is a small hut on the bank, in front of which you can sit down and relax. If you still have energy, you can continue up to the Grafenbergsee (approx. 30 minutes). The Grafenbergalm (1,783 m) can also be reached from the Ahornsee in a total of one hour. The descent takes you back through the romantic high valley to the starting point at the Kneipp facility in Weißenbach.
