This boulder is definitely worth a stop. Glacial boulders like these are common in Finnish forests because massive continental glaciers scoured the landscape during the last Ice Age. As the thick ice sheets moved, they plucked giant chunks of bedrock and transported them hundreds of kilometers. When the glaciers melted roughly 10,000 years ago, they dropped these boulders onto the exposed bedrock. Now they lay scattered in the Finnish forests as silent witnesses to these massive geological changes.
